Do You Have the Spirit of Your Leader? by Pastor Steve Kelly

Matthew 19:5-6 NJKV
‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Anytime God joins something don’t try to SEVER it.

Ephesians 5:31-32 NJKV
“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Whatever we learn in marriage is to give us great insight into Christ and His church.

Matthew 20:28 (NASB)
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

1 Samuel 15:24 NKJV
Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

Saul’s biggest concern was to do what the people wanted to worship and sacrifice as the people wanted.

God said you’re controlled by the needs of people and your own image you’re finished.

Acts 20:29-30 (NKJV)
For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.

Acts 6:4 (NKJV)
“but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the
ministry of the word.”

It was to serve the leadership of the church to minister to leadership.

When problems arise in the church that takes the headship leaders away from their calling, the deacons were there to meet it.

Most of our churches are birthed out of division.

God says to mark those who cause division.

Numbers 11:1-6 (NKJV)
Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp. Then the people cried out to Moses, and when Moses prayed to the Lord, the fire was quenched. So he called the name of the place Taberah, because the fire of the Lord had burned among them. Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: “Who will give us meat to eat? We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!”

Numbers 11:16-17 (NKJV)
So the Lord said to Moses: “Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tabernacle of meeting, that they may stand there with you. Then I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone.

1 Thessalonians 5:12 (NKJV)
And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,

Number 11:24-28 (NKJV)
So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord, and he gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people and placed them around the tabernacle. Then the Lord came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders; and it happened, when the Spirit rested upon them, that they prophesied, although they never did so again. But two men had remained in the camp: the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them. Now they were among those listed, but who had not gone out to the tabernacle; yet they prophesied in the camp. And a young man ran and told Moses, and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” So Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, one of his choice men, answered and said, “Moses my lord, forbid them!

You will fall under the same anointing as your leader, but don’t think it’s yours.

1 Samuel 15:24 (NKJV)
Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

Anytime your loyalty is greater to the people than to the person God gives the vision to, you’re going to miss it.

There are things God will say to the man of the house you won’t understand.

Exodus 24:13 (NKJV)
So Moses arose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.

Exodus 32:21-24 (NKJV)
And Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?” So Aaron said, “Do not let the anger of my lord become hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.  For they said to me, ‘Make us gods that shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ And I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them break it off.’ So they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf came out.”

Before there can be a departing there must be an imparting.

Elisha is going to receive the spirit of Elijah. Elijah told him to wait here but Elisha said I won’t leave you.

You have to be able to cleave and not leave.

Ruth was blessed, she cleaved to Naomi while her sister Oprah kissed Naomi and left.

2 Kings 3:11 (NJKV)
But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there no prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of the Lord by him?” So one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.”

God doesn’t make leaders He makes servants.

Before the 12 apostles entered into their ministries, they had to stay and minister to Jesus.

Danger signs:
Independent spirit is a result of an unbroken will. This is an Acid test of loyalty.

The desire for personal recognition from the spiritual leader, looking for man’s approval, not God’s.

When a person cannot separate his worth from his performance he is devastated when corrected because he is operating in his own strength.

A murmuring Spirit loves to give a bad report and wrong interpretation of circumstance.
It destroys the person your murmuring to.
When you murmur it destroys the person it’s about and it destroys you; It’s poison.

When someone tries to plants seeds in your mind they are like a serpent’s eggs.
The next thing you know, they leave thieves in your temple.
Many could not receive from Jesus because they only saw him as the carpenter’s son.
