You Belong in God’s Family

Snow days!  Not sure where you are living, but chances are you will have at least one, if not many, snow days this winter.  When I see that snow coming down, it makes smile as I think about all the kids (and adults) ready to make snow angels, searching for anything close to a hill to slide down, building snowmen or starting snow ball fights.

For me, some of my funniest “snow” memories were of falls into very deep snow. Years ago, my sister and I went cross country skiing through the Gettysburg battlefields.  With the wrong type of skis and not knowing what we were doing, she ended up sprawled on the ground in the snow begging me to help her up.  We were both laughing hysterically and I was digging for my camera wanting to snap a picture or two before I helped pull her up.  Or, there was the time at Heavenly Ski Area with over two feet of fresh snow and my first attempt at snowboarding.  It seemed like so much fun until I fell in the deep, deep snow and my arms just sunk into the snowdrift as I tried to push myself up. The only way for me to get back up was for one of my friends to give me a hand.  My attempts on my own were funny, but futile.  Without others, I would have been stuck sleeping in the snow!
It’s often the same in our daily lives.  We can struggle, fall and things can get deep really quickly.  Without a helping hand or the assistance of a family member, a friend, a Connect Group member or a pastor, we are stuck on the ground, helpless and hopeless.  Others can’t really change our circumstances, but together with a little help, love and encouragement, we can get back on our feet.

Proverbs 27:9 (NLT)
“The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.”

The same is true with sharing good times and laughter.  It’s just not that much fun alone! We want to share enjoyable experiences, wins in life, and of course, great coffee and conversation with others.  And not only is it fun to be together, it’s biblical. There’s power when we as women gather together.  The Word says,
Matthew 18:20 (MSG)
“And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.”

But better yet is the first part of that verse where it says,
Matthew 18:19 (NIV)
“When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action.”

Just by getting together with other women, we are a catalyst for God to move and for positive change in our world.

And of course, beyond needing each other, we all need God.  Our strength comes from God-
Psalm 28:7-8 (NIV)
“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

But we also know that,
Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NIV)
“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Together we are better!

We all lead busy lives, but we need to make sure we are making time for God, for church and for friends.  We are so excited about this upcoming Devoted Conference because we will have the opportunity to gather as women sharing our love and faith in Christ.  And together, we are a powerhouse through prayer and worship!  The church is the hope of the world and you are an important part of sharing that hope as you gather with others. There’s no doubt, you definitely belong!
