The Woman At The Well

The woman at the well – we don’t know her name, but she had an encounter with God that changed her life forever. When I look at what’s going on in this crazy world we live in, I can so easily think – God that person needs an encounter with you, and that other person I know sure needs You to change their life.

The truth is, like the woman at the well, we’ve all got “stuff” we need to deal with. We all have a past and are dealing with issues from doing life in a broken world. We all need Jesus and we all need to be led by and to walk with the Holy Spirit.

In John 4:16-18 Jesus went straight to this woman’s most vulnerable point…

“He said, “Go call your husband and then come back.” “I have no husband,” she said. “That’s nicely put: ‘I have no husband.’ You’ve had five husbands, and the man you’re living with now isn’t even your husband. You spoke the truth there, sure enough.”

John 4:16-18 MSG

The conversation that Jesus had been having with this woman at the well had all led to this point – He had been making her thirsty for more of what He had to say. She was a believer that had things to hide and was dealing with shame. He touched on what could have been her deepest source of pain and rather than recoil and get offended, she opens up to Him and has a life changing encounter that not only changes her life, but changes the lives of many in her community.

In other words – revival broke out because she opened up to Jesus AND she decided not to keep quiet about it!

And as a result of this encounter, Jesus gave her dignity back. He didn’t ignore the facts, He didn’t overlook the problems or the pain. In fact He spoke right to the things in her life that she was hiding.

I encourage you to grab a coffee and to read and meditate on the story of this woman at the well. Lord that we all have such an encounter with You that changes us and leaves an indelible imprint on those around us!

John 4:1-42.

PRAYER

Please Jesus, I want to live a life that says “look what Jesus has done for me” so that others believe in You. That revival would break out in my circle of influence because I met you and you changed my life so radically. Jesus let my life reflect you – I love you Lord! AMEN
