Day 3 – Devoted Daily Devotional

DAY 3
Devotional by Rachel Brown

One of my favorite movies is Braveheart. It tells the story of the legendary thirteenth century Scottish hero named William Wallace. William led a righteous campaign to end tyranny and bring FREEDOM again from King Edward “Longshanks” who ruled England with an iron fist and wished to inherit the crown of Scotland for himself.

The most famous speech of this film is delivered by William Wallace on the brink of going into a battle that did not look favorable. To encourage the men that chose to stand with him, William spoke these words, “Aye, fight and you may die. Run and you’ll live — at least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take our freedom.”

I love the courage of William, I love that he was not willing to settle for anything less than the freedom he knew belonged to him and his fellow citizens.

I wonder how many times I have settled for less than what God has for me. I am a child of God, a citizen of heaven and I have the power and truth of the Word of God to sustain and support me. Yet, there are times when I live below the life God has for me. The Bible says in John 10:10 (TPT), “A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow!”

I want life in its fullness, life until I overflow but in order to fully embrace this life, I need to understand that Jesus came not just to save me but also to bring me FREEDOM.

FREEDOM is the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved, but there are times that I am imprisoned by my own thoughts and enslaved by my own desires. FREEDOM is a choice. It’s a choice to say less of me God and more of you, it’s a choice to say not my will but your will God.

Psalm 119:45 (NLT) says, “I will walk in FREEDOM, for I have devoted myself to your commandments.”

I don’t believe you can have true FREEDOM without true devotion. So as we come to Devoted Conference 2019, let us devote ourselves and fully embrace the FREEDOM that only Jesus brings. A FREEDOM that was bought at a very high price for you and me.
