DAY 18
Devotional by Megan Harrell

Have you ever missed a God opportunity in the mundane? I know I have! I used to work at a makeup counter and I’m sure you could imagine all the fun things I had the chance to do… Explain to a young girl why you shouldn’t wear false eyelashes for weeks at a time, or find the perfect nude lip when really they wanted a bold red, and of course all the special occasion makeup that was beautiful!

There were many times my job became just that; a job. I drove about 45 minutes to get to work, and I would spend that time listening to my Bible or spending time with God. Going into work on a Friday knowing it was going to be a long day, I asked God to show me why I was there and WOW, did He! Towards the end of my shift, a lady came in and she was just browsing. I said hi to her and the little girl she had with her and asked if I could help her find anything. She said, “I really don’t know, I just want to feel pretty.” I offered her a seat and a mirror. I picked a few things that would compliment her already beautiful skin and eyes. As I am applying makeup we began chatting and she began telling me she had her grand baby with her. Tears began filling her eyes, I paused and just listened. She began telling me her daughter had just passed away that week and she is now taking care of her grand baby. In this moment I could have just let her talk and go about doing my job, but I knew this; THIS is the reason I was working that day. I asked if I could pray with her and her grand baby. After we prayed together I finished her makeup and she loved it. As she was leaving the counter she said thank you for making me feel pretty in this tough time and for praying with me.

I could have missed such a God opportunity but I didn’t! Whatever your day consists of, remember to find the God opportunities to show His love! Being a Christ follower means showing Gods love in the small things. 1 John 3:18 (GNB) says, “My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.” As you go about your day today, ask God to give you eyes to see those that feel invisible, a heart that’s soft to people’s story, words to speak that bring life and the boldness to act. Today could be the day you change someones life!
