Passionate Pursuit of Jesus

Stretch marks are a sign of growth but not just any growth…rapid growth.

When was the last time you rapidly grew spiritually? We all remember when we were a new Christian (well maybe not all of us can remember that long ago) and we just couldn’t get enough of the presence of God. We were the first ones in and the last ones out of church; always fired up about the things of God.

But what happened to those original spiritual stretch marks? Those reminders of the Christian that was on fire for God with a passion for His Word. When was the last time you got new spiritual stretch marks showing the new growth you are still experiencing? God is asking all of us to stretch in our faith, in our generosity, our love for others, but are we willing to stretch with Him or are we still trying to cover up our old stretch marks by lathering up on that cocoa butter?

God is always pursuing us and drawing us toward Himself but it is so easy to get in a comfort zone of cruise control and we forget to continue the passionate pursuit of Jesus. Rev 2:4-5 says “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.”

Let’s get back to our first love, Jesus, and go after Him with all of our hearts. Let’s work on getting more stretch marks…spiritual stretch marks that show our signs of growth in Jesus and in our faith!
