Fear of Rejection

February 21, 2017

Blog by Caitlyn Konradson

Maybe the greatest fear we possess is the fear of rejection. Every person I know is on some sort of mission to gain human acceptance. Maybe you’ve been rejected by someone you love in your past, or you struggle constantly to feel as though you belong in a friend group. Yet, most of us know that we are going to drive ourselves nuts if we live for acceptance offered by this world.

So, here’s the thing… all of us only have so much emotional energy we are afforded in life. The same way we are only afforded so much physical energy. If you go outside and start sprinting, there is only a certain distance you are going to physically be able to achieve. At some point, your physical energy resources become depleted.

The exact same thing is true of us emotionally. We are finite creations and only have so much emotional energy. Stress, anxiety, and striving all tend to drain us of those emotional resources. What this means for us is that we have to be very careful and intentionally determine what we give our energy to in life. We can’t choose to care about everything, because there are many things in life that don’t ultimately matter and can drain us quickly if we allow it.

So, as Christians we must recognize if God looks at me through the lens of Jesus Christ’s cross, and thinks I am utterly spectacular (and He absolutely does), then what difference does it make what another sinful human being thinks of me. Ultimately, the only opinion that really ever matters has already been decided.

Romans 8:38-39 NLT
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

At the cross Jesus literally went through hell for you. That’s how valuable you are to Him. If hell itself cannot stop Him from loving you, what on earth do you think possibly could? That is how outstanding you are. You are valued, prized, and cherished by the one who holds the entire universe in His hands. So, don’t you dare, ever forget how loved and precious you are to our incredible loving Father.

Let’s say this prayer together: “Thank you Jesus that you came and died for us, that we may live whole, loved and cherished. Help us to never forget the price you paid just for us. Help us to always know we belong & no other opinion from man can come against us. We love you Lord, AMEN!”

See you girls so soon xx
