The Way I See It Part 2 by Pastor Joe Riddle

Matthew 24:35 (NASB)
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

The Christian’s ultimate authority for life is not culture, race, ethnicity, politics, gender, sexuality, economics, opinion, or any other value-du-jour.

Genesis 1:26-28 (NASB)
Then God said, “Let Us make mankind in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the livestock and over all the earth, and over every crawling thing that crawls on the earth.” So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Key Insights From Genesis 1:
Humanity was made in the image of God.
God’s first action towards humanity was blessing.
Humanity was created to partner with God in the establishment of His Kingdom on this earth.

Matthew 22:36-40 (NASB)
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Upon these two commandments hang the whole Law and the Prophets.”

Sin: the failure to rightly honor God or another human-made in His image.

Sin entered the human race through Adam.

Romans 3:23 (NASB)
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

Romans 6:23a (NASB)
For the wages of sin is death.

A Quick Recap:
You were created for a purpose. (Genesis 1:28)
Our sin has wrecked that purpose. (Romans 3:23, 6:23)
We can’t fix this on our own.

Romans 3:10-12 (NASB)
as it is written: “There is no righteous person, not even one; There is no one who understands, There is no one who seeks out God; They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, There is not even one.”

Jeremiah 13:23 (NASB)
Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then you as well can do good who are accustomed to doing evil.
“America leads the world at present in golden calf production.” Eugene Peterson

When I say “Two truths we must cling to” be ready to put up the following statement…

We are desperately broken… BUT… We are dearly loved!

Romans 5:8 (NASB)
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NASB)
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. It is in Jesus alone that we find the peace, the saving, and the recreation that we all so desperately need. What we are powerless to manufacture or find on our own God freely DONATES through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Grace does not mean God pretends like your sins are not there… it means Jesus was executed in your place.

What kind of bankruptcy did you declare when you came to Jesus?
