Being Spirit Filled
“You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.” The essence of who we are is our spirit. We’re more than a bag of bones, who we really are is our spirit. Our spirit lives for eternity. C.S. Lewis
Proverbs 18:14 NIV
The human spirit can endure in sickness,
but a crushed spirit who can bear?
We are more than flesh and blood. It is VITAL that we know how to keep our spirit healthy. We can do this by knowing what can break a spirit:
Proverbs 13:12 NIV
Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
We can’t have an unrealistic and unfair expectation of people. This might shock you, but humans are not perfect and they will let you down; however, our God is perfect in every way.
Proverbs 18:21 NIV
The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.
We can carry past hurts into the present. Carrying pasts into the present can emotionally stunt us from growing. Let it go, leave things behind. We can learn to live above negative words!
It’s been said that unforgiveness is choosing to stay trapped in a jail cell of bitterness serving time for someone else’s crime.
You become what you cannot forgive.
So then, how do we build a strong spirit?
Be committed to living a SPIRIT FILLED life
Romans 8:26-27 NIV
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
God gives good gifts to his children (Matt 7:11) and the Holy Spirit has been given to us as a helper, the one who comes alongside us, the one who is there to guide us.
Wave Church believes in the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is important to pray in the Spirit! Spiritual strength keeps us going!
Keep getting up
Psalm 37:23-26 NIV
The Lord makes firm the steps
of the one who delights in him;
though he may stumble, he will not fall,
for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.
They are always generous and lend freely;
their children will be a blessing.
God knows that we’re going to fall over and trip up, we’re human. He just wants us to keep getting up.
Rule your spirit
Proverbs 4:23 NIV
Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
We need to give leadership to our spirit. We cannot let our emotions lead us, we need to learn how to lead them.
God I look to you as my source of affirmation. You are the only one who will never let me down and it is you who gives me the power to forgive others and to also be forgiven. Please help me to see the potential you placed within me and help me to be all that you’ve called me to be. AMEN
