Wave Conference Devotional – Day 26

DAY 26
Devotional by Israel Campbell

If you love the 80’s then you probably remember the lyrics from my all-time favorite group RUN DMC:

My Adidas
Walk through concert doors
And roam all over coliseum floors
I stepped on stage, at Live Aid
All the people gave an applause that paid
And out of speakers I did speak
I wore my sneakers but I’m not a sneak
My Adidas cuts the sand of a foreign land
With mic in hand I cold took command
My Adidas and me both askin P
We make a good team my Adidas and me
We get around together, rhyme forever
And we won’t be mad when worn in bad weather
My Adidas
My Adidas
My Adidas

And you better believe I might have been the only white kid in my Seattle Jr. High School that rocked those same Adidas as RUN DMC!! I might have even tried rapping for a bit, but Rachel my wife will not allow me to even try now, and she may actually be doing us all a favor!

Recently, Adidas has made a massive comeback and I am loving my life! In fact, I had the most amazing experience…. I was asked by a trainer of a professional athlete if I wanted to go on a shopping spree at an Adidas store!! Say what? Yes…..of course I would!

I sang “My Adidas” all the way to the mall to meet my friend. I met him at the Adidas Store and he simply said, “Hey just pick out anything you like.” Well, I liked it all!! However, I just didn’t feel really comfortable with the situation, like was it a discount that I was going to get? How much should I spend? Should I get something for me or for Rachel and the kids too? Are these shoes too much? Is he paying for this out of his own pocket?

My trainer friend looked at some shoes and a few things, but he wasn’t filling up a cart, so I just simply picked out one pair of shoes. He mentioned you should get something for Rachel. So, I found her a pair of yoga pants. But I just didn’t know what else to do… Should I pick out more? Are these shoes I picked out too expensive? I just felt so awkward….. I wanted to accept the generosity but didn’t want to overdo it.

So, I brought the stuff to the register and he said “Is that it?” I simply said yes and told him how thankful and grateful I was while the cashier rang up my 2 items.

My shoes and the yoga pants came to $145.67 and I thought wow, what an amazing blessing!! My friend pulled out an Adidas gift card and the cashier took the payment said “OK you still have a remaining balance of $9,854.33 left on the card.”

I said out loud “wow” and He said “Yeah, I recently trained this professional athlete who is sponsored by Adidas and he gave me this card and if it runs out they will send me a new one.” He said “I pretty much now have a “limitless” gift card at Adidas.” He said last week he took his family and they almost bought one of everything in the store. He then went on to say you should have grabbed more gear. I said next time!! He said absolutely and then moved out of the state a month later.

He said “limitless” gift card….. I settled for one pair of shoes and yoga pants!! Don’t get me wrong, I was so thankful, but on the other hand, I had the opportunity and the permission for so much more and I missed the moment.

I told this whole story to simply say this. Our theme this year for Wave Conference 19’ is “Limitless.” I pray and hope all of us get this in our spirit and don’t settle for anything less than what our amazing God can and wants to do in our life.

The only thing that kept me from being dressed from top to bottom in Adidas like Run DMC was me. The only thing that can keep us from totally walking and obtaining everything God has for us is us!

His joy, His peace, His health, His purpose for our lives……”limitless.”

When we know before that our God’s resources are “limitless” we fill up our cart a little bit different. With Wave Conference just around the corner, let’s get ready to load up, let’s get everything the Holy Spirit has for us. Let’s not settle, because our God is “Limitless!!”
