Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.”
Have you ever felt alone or out of place? I have felt this on multiple occasions for different reasons. Two times particularly stand out to me. One when I was in high school and college I was diagnosed with Lupus and it seemed as if everything that was wrong with me was directly because of the Lupus. This was not only hard for me but hard for my friends and family because they could not understand and I felt alone many times. Just recently, my husband and I were displaced from home due to hurricane Matthew. We had to move into a temporary apartment until we could purchase a home (Praise God we did!). Even after purchasing our home it has been a process and I have felt some days that I don’t have a home (all of this amplified by hormones from being pregnant- can you feel me? Haha.).
All that to say, I look forward to Devoted every year because I know I belong and “You Belong” as well. Jesus said, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavily burdened.” Every year at Devoted we get to encounter Jesus at Devoted and this year is no different. Don’t let a sense of loneliness or feeling out of place keep you from the one who is ultimately calling you and saying “You Belong!”
My prayer for you, Holy Spirit encourage my friend and my sister to draw near to you. No matter her circumstance give her strength to overcome any sense of not belonging. Let her know that she has a place at Devoted and that we eagerly await the opportunity to worship, laugh, dance and cry alongside her. Grant her confidence to come and travel mercies. Lord show up in her world like never before.
